You and your party can enjoy a day or even a few hours with a typical Fijian family, either in the Fijian or an Indian community.
1.Fijian Community
Your driver will take you to a Fijian village where you will firstly go and visit the chief of the village in the community hall. With a sevusevu ceremony to welcome you into their homes. You will join the culture by drinking kava with the chief and the elders of the tribe before getting time to yourself in the village with a guide. You can then go out into the village and interact with the local community and the children of the community. You can ask the guide for a typical Fijian lunch and he will set you up with a family in the village where you can have delicacies made from fish, chicken, pork or even beef. You can give an honorarium to the family that hosts you and thank them for the hospitality before eventually having a farewell talk with the chief before you get transported back to the hotel.
2.Indian Community
Your driver will take you to an Indian community where you will meet your host family for the day. After an initial offering of light refreshments you will be invited to join the family for a kava drinking session during which the neighbours of the community could also join. Upon having your fill of grog you will be welcomed by the family to dine with them for lunch. You are welcome to go to the other neighbours for a light walk and visit their respective families and join their kids in a little bit of play time in the afternoon. Once you are ready to leave you can give an honorarium to the host family and thank them for the hospitality before your driver brings you back to your hotel.
Depending on the location of the village or host family that you select the distance can vary.
